Recommendations from the UK transport resilience review

The Department for Transport has published the results of a review of the resilience of England’s transport infrastructure during extreme events, in particular looking at the extreme weather events experienced in winter 2013–14. The report identifies some common themes – interdependencies, development of appropriate economic methodologies, the importance of regular maintenance – as well as looking in detail at railways, roads and ports/airports. The review authors identified over 60 recommendations – some to be implemented quickly, while others relating to the physical resilience of transport infrastructure would take longer to set in place.
