Protecting treasures at the Louvre

On the banks of the river Seine, the Louvre Museum and its priceless contents are at risk from both river and surface water flooding. The site is now protected by a combination of physical barriers, early warning systems and a team of expert volunteers who will move specific artefacts to safety should the dams be breached.

A project to build pumping stations to divert flood water away from the site is also underway.
