This week saw the introduction of the Government’s strategy for a second round of the Adaptation Reporting Power (ARP). The ARP allows the Secretary of State to request information about the adaptation plans of a range of organisations providing services in England. This second round will invite updates from those who have already reported, and will also ask new participants to report, including the health and social care sector, heritage organisations, the telecoms sector and internal drainage boards.
The strategy proposes an entirely voluntary reporting process (unlike the first round) and it will begin later this year when the Secretary of State issues invitations to the first tranche of reporting organisations. Different provisions apply in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, and these are described in the report. While final timescales are still under discussion, the intention is that the reports will contribute to the next Climate Change Risk Assessment and National Adaptation Programme.
