UK Climate Projections (UKCP09)
The UK Climate Projections (UKCP09) give climate information for the UK from now until the end of the century. The Projections of future changes to our climate are based on a new methodology designed by the Met Office, which allows a measure of the uncertainty in future climate projections to be included in the information.
In order to get the most from this new data set, UKCIP have built on the success of its national training programme for the Projections and developed a new range of courses and services to help businesses and organisations explore and understand the implications of our changing climate.
The following courses are available:
Please note that for all UKCP09 courses, you will require a basic level of competence in using the Internet.
Registration is required to access the courses, which are all free of charge.

UKCP09 Course 1: Key features, maps, plume plots & CDFs
This course will introduce delegates to the UK Climate Projections
and the UKCP09 User Interface and guide them through its basic
functions. The first section of this course covers methods for obtaining
data from the Projections with exercises to allow trainees to gain
experience with the User Interface.
|
 |
UKCP09 Course 2: CDFs, PDFs, joint probabilities & raw data
Building on the knowledge gained in the Introduction to UKCP09 and the User Interface
course, here we further explore the functionality of the User Interface
and look at the more complex issues surrounding the use of
- CDF plots
- PDF plots
- Joint probability plots
- Raw data
Guidance on producing and interpreting these outputs is provided,
allowing delegates to think about and produce their own results.
- Prerequisite: Completion of Course 1
|
 |
UKCP09 Course 3: Marine
In this course we have developed a range of specific examples to
explore the wealth of data available on the marine environment around
the UK within the projections.
This course can be taken as a stand alone option or following the Introductory or Intermediate courses.
- Scheduled release date Summer 2010.

 |
UKCP09 Course 4: Weather Generator
In this course we will explore the use of the more advanced functions
of the User Interface, with most time devoted to the use of the Weather
Generator.
The Weather Generator allows for the creation of a statistically
valid representation of future climate at a daily or hourly level, which
can be useful for many types of impacts analysis – particularly
flooding and temperature.
This course requires a high degree of computer literacy and
confidence in using large data sets (approx. 70-120 mb). If you are
unsure whether your have appropriate skills for this course, please contact us.
