A Commission Green Paper on Adaptation was launched for consultation in 2007. It sets out a four-pillar approach at Community level:
Early action in areas from agriculture to trade with EU policies and Community funds.
Integration of adaptation into EU external actions, in particular for developing countries.
Climate research, in particular on impacts and technological innovation
Involving all segments of society in development of adaptation strategies.
The next steps proposed by the Commission include creating a European Advisory Group for Adaptation to Climate Change and further development of Community adaptation policies by end 2008.
