The UK Climate Impacts Programme (UKCIP) was established in 1997 to help co-ordinate scientific research into the impacts of climate change, and to help organisations adapt to those unavoidable impacts. The majority of UKCIP’s funding is from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. UKCIP is based at the Environmental Change Institute at Oxford University.

UKCIP works at the boundary between scientific research, policy makers and stakeholders (people working in the public, private and voluntary sectors interested in the impacts of climate change). We act to coordinate and influence research into our future climate and to share the outputs in ways that are useful to stakeholders.

UKCIP publishes climate change information on behalf of the UK Government – these show how the UK’s climate might change in this century. In June 2009, the current set of climate change information, UK Climate Projections (UKCP09) was published. More information about the previous set of scenarios, UKCIP02, and UKCP09 can be found in the UK Climate section of the website.

We work with businesses and organisations to help them assess how they might be affected by climate change, so they can prepare for its impact. We encourage organisations to use our tools and information to help them consider their climate risks and to plan to adapt. See sections on our work in the UK, themes and Tools to help you.
