Although the UKCIP02 climate change scenarios themselves have not been updated since 2002, several new products and tools have become available which either enhance or facilitate the use of the UKCIP02 climate change scenarios.
The UKCIP02 extras pages provide a listing of such work, which we believe has either added value or allowed improved access to the information provided by UKCIP02.
A Climate Change Weather File Generator which uses the UKCIP02 climate change scenarios to transform CIBSE / Met Office TRY/DSY weather files into climate change TMY2 or EPW weather files. (February 2008).
Location & extent of the UKCIP02 grids provides information to help users locate places of interest with respect to the UKCIP02 5 km and 50 km grids. (September 2007).
UKCIP02 headline messages provides an overview of what UKCIP02 tells us about the future climate of the UK. Together, they form a good place to start for new users to UKCIP02. (March 2007).
An update to the estimates of sea level change given in the UKCIP02 Scientific Report, and a guidance note explaining the relationship between this update and Defra’s October 2006 sea-level rise allowances. (December 2005, updated November 2006).
Met Office 5km gridded datasets providing monthly observed climate records are available for the period 2001-2005. These datasets, created based on the archive of UK weather observations held at the Met Office, were already available from 1914-2000 (depending on weather variable) and provide an important baseline observed climatology for the UK. (September 2006).
A summary of recent analysis undertaken by the Met Office to examine trends in the observed UK climate since 1914. (June 2006).
UKCIP02 50 km Viewer is an Excel-based tool for displaying the 50km resolution UKCIP02 scenarios. (May 2006).
ProMPTS is a tool that allows interrogation of the 5km resolution UKCIP02 monthly time-series of mean temperature. (May 2006).
The underlying model output that provides the foundation of UKCIP02 has been converted into ESRI shapefile format (*.shp) files that are compatible with Geographical Information System (GIS) software. These files provide changes in climate variables for each emissions scenario and future time-slice for the 50km-resolution UKCIP02 grid. (March 2006).
The UKCIP02 underlying model output is provided free of charge, but we require that an application form is completed before access can be granted. From January 2006 the application process was streamlined, with an online application form available from the UKCIP Scenarios Gateway web-pages. (January 2006).
A Met Office maintained web-facility that provides access to observed baseline climate averages. The baseline climate information is provided in map and table formats, for regions and individual places in the UK. Two baseline periods are available, 1961-1990 and 1971-2000. (December 2004).
In the UKCIP02 Scientific Report, only limited information was provided about the uncertainties associated with the changes described by the UKCIP02 scenarios of climate change. A more detailed review of uncertainties in predictions of climate change and suggestions of ways in which they can be handled is provided by a Hadley Centre Technical Note. (November 2003).
