Researchers have identified a “postcode lottery of preparedness” in relation to climate change for 30 UK cities. The research team scored the cities on four levels of readiness: assessment, planning, action and monitoring, looking at each city’s response to the challenge of carbon reduction (mitigation) and adaptation to current and future climate change. Adaptation action lagged behind mitigation initiatives, and the researchers noted that while many cities had action plans in place, monitoring and assessment needed to be stronger.
