Climate impacts

Our climate is already changing – that much is certain. Rainfall patterns are changing, sea levels are rising, glaciers are retreating, arctic sea-ice is thinning and the incidence of extreme weather is increasing in some parts of the world. We are also seeing changes in our climate in the UK.

A number of studies have been undertaken to help understand how the UK will be affected by climate change for each region and devolved administration of the UK, and for a number of sectors. In 2005 UKCIP produced Measuring Progress, a summary of the climate impacts studies we had been involved with up to then.

UKCIP has tools to help you assess your climate vulnerability – LCLIP, UK Climate Projections, the Adaptation Wizard, the Risk framework, Socio-economic scenarios, and a Costings methodology.

The Indicators of Climate Change in the UK website shows how climate, environmental, social and economic indicators, such as frequency of flooding, crop yields and wildlife activities have altered in recent years.
