Benefits to renewable groundwater resources of avoiding GHG emissions

Researchers in Germany applied four greenhouse gas emission scenarios to help identify the potential future risks and benefits on global groundwater resources. For example, their work indicated that under the lowest emission scenario, by the 2080s, 47% of people would avoid significant changes in groundwater resources compared to only 28% in a high emissions scenario. This work indicates the possibilities of using modelled data to quantify and present avoided risks to support decision-making associated with climate change mitigation and adaptation.
