The connecting link: Water security and adaptation was a side event at the Bonn climate negotiations. Water is how we feel climate change most keenly, and could thus be vital in coordinating and collaborating on responses to climate change. Droughts and floods are ‘here to stay’, but water does not obey political borders, and requires transnational solutions. Climate adaptation is complex, and there are many bodies and agreements involved – the Nairobi Work Programme, the Green Climate Fund, the Adaptation Committee, to name a few. National efforts are important, but each nation faces its own limits in planning and institutional capacity, as well as the challenge of policy coherence across its own bodies and economic sectors.
