The Adaptation Sub-Committee (ASC) of the Committee on Climate Change has expressed its serious concerns about new proposals on the promotion of sustainable drainage systems (SuDS). The government is proposing to use the planning system to promote use of SuDS, in preference to implementing relevant sections of the Flood and Water Management Act (2010). The ASC describes this as a ‘significant weakening’ of the approach to SuDS which fails to address key barriers. Expect to hear more about this over the coming months.
